Terri has cared for hundreds of mothers, babies and families over the last 25 years, in their homes, in birth centers and in non-clinical and clinical settings. She believes that birth is a normal natural process and is in awe of the power of birth.
Terri is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), nationally certified and licensed in the State of New Mexico. She has worked in Texas, Guatemala, Peru, Mexico and New Mexico over the last 25+ years. She now lives in Philadelphia with her partner and son.
After traveling through Central America and living in Northern New Mexico, Terri knew she wanted to be a midwife. In 1993, she completed her midwifery training at Maternidad La Luz, in El Paso, Texas. She then went on to work with several midwives in New Mexico and Guatemala, before retuning to Maternidad La Luz where she was a staff midwife for 5 years. There, she enjoyed working with women from Mexico in addition to training numerous student midwives from different cultures and countries. She had a home birth practice in Albuquerque New Mexico for 8 years. In 2013 she moved to Pennsylvania and is now proud to serve the Philadelphia area!
Terri speaks Spanish, enjoys working with women from all over the world and brings her strong belief in social justice to her practice. She is passionate about the rights of children and standing up for people who are not able to do so themselves all while lifting up those around her. She loves traveling, meeting new people and learning about the customs of the people she encounters. One reason she loves attending births at home is the diverse clientele that she is honored to help and support. Blending what she has learned from over 1,400+ families, hundreds of midwives, and several other teachers, Terri uses essential oils, flower essences, muscle testing, emotional clearings, pulse assessment, herbal remedies, natural therapies, nutrition, and the profound trust in women to have the birth they desire.
Terri enjoys sharing the postpartum time with the families she attends. She spends many hours helping the families adjust and heal from the birthing process. She pulls on her herbal knowledge and countless families to assure growth of the families she encounters.
If hospital care is necessary, Terri will go with the family and continue care as usual after the birth, holding the belief that birth is magical wherever it takes place and no one can take that away.
A word from Terri: If I have the pleasure of working with you and your family I will be so honored to walk this journey with you. I have been refining my craft for more than 30 years! I walk this path along side of you, offering my wisdom, strength and a fear-free birthing space. I blend the art and science of midwifery and trust the natural rhythms of life. Together we will find ALCHEMY.
